These threats, coupled with a growing global population and the competition for clean water and consistent food sources, leading to changes in migration patterns and possible direct confrontation, threatens the national security of many nations.
Moderator, G. Tracy Mehan III, Principal with the Cadmus Group, formerly held positions as the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Water for EPA, Director of the Michigan Office of the Great Lakes and Director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. He hosts a panel exploring food and water supply adaptation measures:
- Peter Gleick, is Co-founder and President of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security in Oakland, California. He is a MacArthur Fellow and elected an Academician of the International Water Academy, in Oslo, Norway and to the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C.
- Jay Knott, Abt’s VP for Global Business, was the former AID Mission Director in Jordan. He currently oversees agriculture and food supply chain projects providing support to USAID, IDB, DFID (British counterpart to USAID), ADB and IDB.
- Ed Piñero is Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Veolia Water North America. Piñero’s experience includes serving as the Federal Environmental Executive responsible for advancing the U.S. government’s environmental stewardship initiatives, building on the programs of prior administrations while creating and implementing new sustainability programs to further “green” the federal government.
